Still playing with creating some cute chibi characters. This one is Billie. Somewhat inspired by the new Barbie song by Billie Eilish, “What Was I Made For?”.
I realize I haven’t done a lot of digital painting of skin tones since college so I felt a bit overwhelmed trying to figure it out. So I used AI for this image. I’m trying to find a way to use the tech without straight stealing from other artists.
This is a full paint over so everything you see was done by me. I used the AI image for the pose and to color pick (because I know I really need to work on that). Maybe it’s still not entirely ethical? But I think it can be a good way to practice new things and experiment with new styles. Not sure yet.
Do you think there’s a way to use AI in art that isn’t icky? I’m excited for Adobe’s AI Firefly that only uses its own stock images as reference; so they have permission from the creators. That’s gotta be the most ethically sound method I’ve heard of.
